Exploring the Psychology of the Boss....

There are times when you read a book or listen/watch a program that simply captures with intense clarity everything you pondered around the dynamics in an office setting. One of such programs was Talk of the Nation with Neil Conan on NPR last week Wednesday. It was titled "Exploring the Psychology of the Boss", you can listen here: NPR.org - Talk of the Nation

Some background on my management style will provide a lot of insight into why I found this program so facinating. I am a frank, straight to the point, lets get things done kind of manager. I detest grandstanding! bloviating! folks that lust after bandwidth. They just cant help themselves, they have to say something even if its to re state the obvious. While thats a personal pet peeve, I also noticed that there is a tendency to ascribe to most of these individuals capabilities beyond their compentence. Being heard, enhances visibility and that never hurts when it comes to dishing out accorlades. The thinking is if you have anything to say, whats holding you up from saying it!

I am naturally suspicious of those that insist on talking endlessly




Sucking up to the boss is a natually extension of this trait - someone described it as KISS UP, KICK DOWN.
